A wildlife world of adventure awaits guests on game drives in open jeeps and bush walks under the guidance of our experienced and knowledgeable rangers. Welgevonden is a private reserve and home to Africa’s ‘big five’, allowing visitors to view game such as elephant, lion and rhino.

Moreover, the Waterberg region is known for a large variety in vegetation ranging from endless open plains to sheltered rock valley’s to relish more intimate encounters with other fauna and flora.

The Lodge

An integral part of the breathtaking Welgevonden Reserve, Sediba means 'spring' or 'source' in the traditional Sotho language. Sediba consists of two all-suite lodges; Letlapala and Letlapa. Guests are welcome to stay at either of the two lodges as both provide an equal source of wellbeing and complete relaxation. The lodges are separated by a dirt road and are a five minute drive apart from one another.

Letlapa meaning 'rock' lodge, situated in a valley with a perennial stream running through it. Letlapa has ten double suites and is, as a result of the design and sheer size of the suites the more spectacular of the two lodges.

The suites in Letlapa are linked to each other and to the main lodge by boardwalks including one wheel-chair friendly path. Of its ten exclusive suites, one suite has been specially prepared to accommodate our disabled guests.

Letlapala meaning 'the place of the sun' is aptly named as it is situated on one of the highest points of the reserve, basking in both sunrise and sunset and providing guests with spectacular views over the Welgevonden Reserve.

Letlapala is the more intimate of the two lodges as it has a mere five double guest suites and one main lodge. In the main lodge guests can enjoy private candle-lit dinners on the viewing deck or around the fire in the traditional Boma. Every aspect at the lodge is carefully designed to seamlessly blend into the environment whilst providing all thinkable comfort.

All of Sediba’s facilities are available to guests staying at either of the two lodges described above.

The Suites

Floating between the towering trees and the forest floor, each of Sediba's fifteen suites embrace the natural environment, whilst offering the ultimate in sumptuous comfort and tranquillity.

The hand-crafted and secluded suites are designed with spacious double bedrooms, en-suite lounges with fire places and open-plan bathrooms. Along with modern day comforts such as air-conditioning and towel warmers, each suite has private viewing deck overlooking the majestic Waterberg mountains.
The decks have relaxing built-in Jacuzzi’s and outdoor showers for guest enjoyment in complete privacy.

Every detail in Sediba’s unique suites has been carefully selected to create a refined balance of wild luxury.

Wildlife

Welgevonden Private Game Reserve

Welgevonden is one of the largest privately owned reserves in South Africa, covering 37 000 hectares of pristine bushveld in the malaria-free Waterberg region.

With the leopard as a natural inhabitant, most of the other major game species have been successfully reintroduced into the reserve. The reintroduction projects have tripled the game population in size over the past five years.

From an original pride of five lions, at least 22 now roam freely within the reserve's boundaries. Just under 50 elephants were originally released into the reserve and 85 now reside in Welgevonden.
Other reintroductions include the white rhino (for which Welgevonden is renowned), buffalo and special antelope species such as sable, roan, and gemsbok.

Other species, which were already on the farms when Welgevonden was established, have been allowed to flourish. These include leopard, antelope, giraffe, warthog, bush pig, aardvark, pangolin and many more. Black-backed jackals and the very rare brown hyena have also prospered in the conservancy.

Last, but certainly not least, within Welgevonden 270 bird species have been recorded. For those who desire to ‘spot’ the Big Five, admire various vegetation or simply enjoy magnificent scenery, Welgevonden's majestic landscape has a lot to offer.
